World Map

The World Map is a web based map where map images are retrieved via the Internet from the AtoBviaC Servers in the UK.

WM_FullMap

The toolbar, initially located at the top left hand corner of the map has the following functionality:-

 

The Back button

WM_TB_back

 

The back button can be used to display the previous map images displayed in much the same way as the 'back button' on a web browser.

 

The Zoom In button

WM_TB_Zoom

The Zoom In button, will when clicked, toggle the map into zoom in mode, whilst in this mode the mouse cursor will change to a magnifying glass WM_TB_ZoomCur.  You can now 'Zoom in' in two different ways:-

 

1.Clicking the mouse anywhere on the map will zoom the map in one level.
2.Drawing an area on the map to which you wish the map to zoom.  Do this by positioning the mouse cursor at the top left hand corner of the zoom area, hold the left mouse button down and drag the mouse to the bottom right hand corner of the area.  When you release the left mouse button the map will zoom in on the area you marked or 'rubber banded' on the map.

 

The Zoom out button

WM_TB_ZoomOut

 

The Zoom Out button, will when clicked, toggle the map into zoom out mode, whilst in this mode the mouse cursor will change to a magnifying glass WM_TB_ZoomOutCur.  Zooming out works in a similar way to zooming in except in the revers direction!

 

 

The Pan button

WM_TB_Pan

 

The Pan button, will when clicked, toggle the map into pan mode, whilst in this mode the mouse cursor will change to a hand symbolWM_TB_PanCur.

You can pan the map in two ways:-

 

1. Click the mouse on the spot on the map to centre the map on that spot.
2. Click and hold the left mouse button down and drag the map in the direction you wish it to scroll.

The 'World' button

Clicking the 'World' button will zoom the map out so that you can see the entire map.

 

The Information button

WM_TB_Info

 

When this button is down you can click on objects on the map and obtain any information available on that object.

 

The Measure Button

WM_TB_Measure

 

Click the Measure button to display a scale at the bottom of the map and allow you to calculate distances between objects and or places on the map.  When the measure button is down the mouse cursor will change to a cross hair WM_TB_MeasureCur

 

You measure distances by placing the mouse cursor on the first object, holding the LEFT mouse button down and drawing a line to the target object.  A small tool tip will display the distance.

The Layers button

WM_TB_layers

 

Clicking the layers button will drop down a list of the available map layers.  To display a layer, click the check box next to it, it will become ticked.  The layer will be displayed when you move the mouse cursor away from the list.  To stop displaying a layer, click the check box next to the layer to remove the tick.

The Legend button

Clicking the legend button will display a graphic showing the various colours used on the currently displayed layers.

 

The Print Button

WM_TB_print

 

Click the Print button will, unsurprisingly enough, print the current map to a printer attached to the system.  You will be prompted in the usual way to select a printer.
