Norwegian Routing |
Top Previous Next |
On the 1st July 2007 routeing around the Northern Norwegian coast changed substantially, effectively introducing three different routes that can be used.
1. The Offshore route.
We understand that this applies to the majority of shipping not transiting between Norwegian ports it has it's own offshore Traffic Separation Scheme (TSS). This route has been moved much further offshore.
2. The Inshore route.
For ships moving between Norwegian ports there is an inshore route that may be moved, this is similar to the routes that ships would take before the changes came into effect on the 1st July.
3. The Indreleia or bad weather route.
This routes passes close inshore through the fjords and in certain places is very narrow. We have marked this route as environmentally sensitive.
To comply with the changes made on the 1st of July, build 1.0.6.22 of the Distance Tables release on the 31st August 2007 implements the following additional routing points:-
Norway - Indreleia Routing
Controlling the use of the Indreleia or bad weather routes.
Much of this route is environmentally sensitive and hazardous and as such the Distance Tables will avoid such areas wherever possible.
