Indian Ocean Anti-Piracy Area - May 2011 Update
|
|
In the light of recent events, much research, AIS tracks and input from a number of major shipping companies we have completely re-designed the current anti-piracy area and routing for the Indian Ocean.
The area now extends from the coast of Somalia in the Gulf of Aden, south of the Gulf of Aden transit corridor up to 21 North, to 74 East, South East of Diego Garcia and then along 12 South to 12 miles of the coast and islands of Mozambique, Tanzania and Kenya. There is no route to the North of Madagascar any longer, with anti-piracy turned ON all routes pass to the South of Madagascar.
Routes transiting North/South through the Indian Ocean now pass to the South East of Mauritius and Ile de la Reunion.
The JWC routing points that were present in the last and previous releases of the tables have been removed.

Obviously tens of thousands of routes and distances have changed, as a rough guide the table to the right shows the major changes between the last release and the current release with anti-piracy turned on. |
