Background

AtoBviaC Plc is a young company but with a wealth of experience.

Formed in 2003 it's founders include amongst their numbers, Master Mariners and software developers. This represents a unique combination of the expertise required to produce these marine software applications.

The company was founded in response to BP Shipping’s requirement to produce a new version of their Marine Distance Tables.

A great many distances needed to be recalculated to take account of new routing and environmental considerations. There were also a large number of new ports and terminals not included in the old version of the tables.

BP Shipping, in their pursuit of corporate excellence and best practice were insistent that these distances were calculated, and seen to be calculated, on a thoroughly professional and consistent basis. They also wished to see this capability maintained and made available to the whole of the marine industry.

The Distances from the BP Shipping Tables underpin many commercial and operational activities. There is a need for the industry to know what these distances are, to have confidence in their computation and to have immediate access to the calculation of new distances and routings whenever they are required.

The trade marks BP and the Helios are trade marks of BP p.l.c. and are used by AtoBviaC by permission to indicate BP's development of the published BP Shipping Marine Distance Tables.

AtoBviaC assembled a team of ex Master Mariners with over 360 years marine experience between them and accomplished this task by the end of 2004 and have since then been continually expanding and developing the Tables.
